OBJECTIVES:

To have a better understanding of the function of shape, you will break down 3D animal forms into simple positive and negative shapes.

KEY TERMS:

Shape:
- A closed line; flat.
Geometric Shapes:
- Derived from geometry; shapes characterized by crisp and precise edges
Rectilinear Shapes:
- A shape composed from straight lines and angular corners.
Curvilinear Shapes:
- A shape whose contour is dominated by curves and flowing lines.
Organic Shapes:
- A shape that visually suggests nature or natural forces.
Positive Shapes:
- The foreground shape in a design
Negative Shapes:
- A shape created through the absence of an object rather than through the presence of an object.

POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE ANIMAL SHAPE PROJECT DIRECTIONS:

For this project, you will break down 3D animal forms into simple positive and negative shapes. Refer to the examples above for ideas. Follow and check off the steps below to ensure that you are completing this project to the best of your ability.

Complete Project Planner
Search and select an animal to draw (it must be a difficult animal choice).
Recreate animal image onto colored construction paper.
Start Final Project (receive feedback from Ms. Moreno at least 3 times throughout the process).
Submit Final Project to Google Classroom!
