- How can line be used to show emotion in your artwork?
OBJECTIVE(S):
- You will identify the characteristics of line.
- You will be able to define line.
- You will create a self-portrait made up of objects, symbols and/or imagery that represent key elements of their identity.
- You will be able to understand and explain the function of line.
- You will apply your knowledge of lines and how it pertains to the expression of emotions by creating abstract line designs that represent given concepts.
KEY TERMS:
- Line:
- a point moving in space.
- Horizontal Lines:
- suggest a calmness when used in a composition
- Vertical Lines:
- vertical lines seem to reach toward the sky suggesting growth and inspiration
- have a sense of boldness, strongness, and stability
- Thin Lines:
- can be timid, delicate, or weak
- Diagonal Lines:
- show action, falling, leaning, or growing
- Pointed or Jagged Lines:
- both express uncertainty, anger, or frustration
- Meandering and Flowing Lines:
- Meandering lines- whimsical and happy
- Flowing lines- graceful and mystical
NOISE ART PROJECT DIRECTIONS:
For this project, you will apply your knowledge of lines and how it pertains to the expression of emotions by creating abstract line designs that represent given concepts. Based on your emotional response to the concepts, you will use color and abstract lines to represent the following concepts:
- Feeling of winning a game
- Ripping a paper apart
- Waking up suddenly from a loud noise
- Hearing a creaky door open
- Complete silence
- Sound of someone screaming
- Feeling of scrapping your nails against a chalk board
- Sound of a broken vase
- Line Focus Notes
- Start Final Project (receive feedback from Ms. Moreno at least 3 times throughout the process).
