ESSENTIAL QUESTION(S):

OBJECTIVES:

To have a better understanding of how color is used in artwork, students will create a silhouette sunset that utilizes one of the color schemes discussed.

KEY TERMS:

Color:
- is light produced when striking an object and reflected back to the eye
- Has 3 characteristics:
  - Hue (name of color)
  - Value (lightness/darkness)
  - Intensity (bright or dull)
Color Scheme:
- Is the choice of colors to create style and appeal
Primary Colors:
- Colors that can be mixed to produce other colors on the color wheel
Secondary Colors:
- Colors formed when mixing two primary colors
Tertiary Colors:
- Colors formed when equal amounts of primary and secondary colors are mixed
Monochromatic Colors:
- Various shades of a single color
Complementary Colors:
- Colors across from each other on the color wheel
Split-Complementary Colors:
- The use of a base color and two colors adjacent to its complement
Analogous Colors:
- Colors that are neighbors on the color wheel
- Typically 3 colors next to one another
Warm Colors:
- Reds, oranges, yellows, beiges, or any creamy type colors
Cool Colors:
- Blue, green, purple, or grays

CITYSCAPE PROJECT DIRECTIONS:

For this project, you will use one color scheme to create a silhouette sunset of a beach scene that utilizes one of the color schemes discussed.
