ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:
- What is identity?
- What factors make up your identity?
- How does the way a person define him/herself impact how he/she “sees” others?
- How might your identity shape your behavior?
OBJECTIVE(S):
- You will identify facets of your personal identities.
- You will observe and analyze how race, religion, family and other factors influence your identity.
- You will create a self-portrait made up of objects, symbols and/or imagery that represent key elements of their identity.
- You will explain what objects you included in your self-portraits and how they relate to your personal identities.

- Identity:
- condition or character as to who a person or what a thing is; the qualities, beliefs, etc., that distinguish or identify a person or thing
- Impact:
- to influence or alter
- Race:
- a socially constructed category of identification based on physical characteristics, ancestry, historical affiliation, or shared culture
- Facets:
- aspects (nature, quality, character) or phases
- Symbols:
- something used for or regarded as representing something else; a material object representing something, often something immaterial; emblem, token, or sign
- Behavior:
- the action or reaction of any material under given circumstances
IDENTITY PROJECT DIRECTIONS:
For this project, you will utilize your responses from the unit essential questions and unit objectives to create your own abstract identity portrait. You will use symbols that represent factors of your identity to create your portrait. Refer to the examples above for ideas. Follow and check off the steps below to ensure that you are completing this project to the best of your ability.
- Start Final Project (receive feedback from Ms. Moreno at least 3 times throughout the process.)
