Senior Community Art

The goal of our project is to spread awareness of issues that are currently taking place, locally and globally. We hope to make it a community-based project for the senior class by inviting the senior class to help paint our translations of the data we collected. These issues included LGBTQ community, substance abuse, and climate change.

2019-21

We chose our three topics, and we started to plan the paintings

  • Collected data on our three separate topics

  • Created spreadsheets that include graphs that correlate with each topic

  • Translated data into abstract art pieces using the work of artist Ellie Balk for inspiration

  • Bought supplies, constructed canvas

  • Traced translations onto canvas

  • Mixed paints to prepare for group painting session

  • The pandemic began right as we about the paint, in March 2020, and the school went to remote learning

  • We were able to transfer the designs to three canvases, and we started the painting at home

  • The paintings were continued through the next school year, and when completed, they were hung in the hallway near the cafeteria with a description of the work
