Candy Grams

Planning

Idea:

We wanted to spread some love and Holiday spirit by sending kind messages to people around the school. Since it was before winter break, we thought Candy Grams would be a festive way to do that.

Planning:

We needed to figure out a way to receive messages, anonymously, and decide whether or not we wanted to charge people to send them. We also needed to plan out how we were going to send them out without disrupting classes too much.

Who Helped:

We would like to thank Ms. Slossberg, and the girls in our Leadership class for the help completing this assignment to the best of our abilities.

Process

What We Did:

To start, we set up an anonymous Google Form for people to send them in. To make sure that people had access to the Form, we put a QR code on two festive posters, one in English and one in Portuguese. We hung the posters around the school, and waited for responses to come in.

While awaiting responses, Ms. Slossberg got mini candy canes and ribbon for us to assemble them with.

We ended up receiving over 500 messages in our Google Form. After a week, we closed the Form and transferred all of the messages into a Google Doc. We then printed this document out, and cut the messages into individuals.

With the help of the rest of the class, we were able to assemble and hand out 400 candy grams.

Outcome

Challenges:

We did not expect to be sent 500+ messages, so I think that the amount of them was a challenge, as it turned the project into a much larger production than anticipated. It took us two classes to hand them out, which meant we visited the same class multiple times, which bothered the teachers a little bit.

Additionally, some people sent in multiple to the same person, so when we ended up sorting them, and were tight on Candy Canes, we had to cut some of them out.

Reflection:

I think that this project went very well, and was successful. We handed out almost all the the Candy Grams that were sent in to us within two class periods. We are both very proud in how this turned out.
