Cooperative Oral History Project

The Cooperative Oral History Project is designed to guide youth and senior age adults in using language to verbally and intentionally communicate instances of human experiences in our diverse world. Our goal with this project was to uplift the voices and stories of African Americans on Martha’s Vineyard. We hope to archive this project, and do more oral history projects with ASALH to highlight Black history and experiences on the island and beyond at MVRHS. We were lucky enough to interview Dr. Lorna Andrade and hear her amazing story. We are so grateful to have had this experience and for her sharing her wisdom with us.

2020-21

  • We read articles about Dr. Lorna to learn a bit about her before beginning the interview process

  • We created a timeline of all of her experiences and achievements that we knew of

  • We developed a list of questions, approved by Dr. Lorna, to ask during our interview

  • We filmed our interview and valuable conversation via zoom

  • We are now editing the video, to prepare it for showing on Martha’s Vineyard Community Television Station and at a meeting of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History
