Redesigning the Locker Room Spaces

Our goal was to upgrade and modernize the sports locker rooms so that our students and guests may feel comfortable and clean while using them. The locker rooms should have partitioned individual showers so that all students could start using the space without feeling uncomfortable. School spirit could be reinforced by the walls getting a new purple and white paint job. Additionally, we wanted to help Mr. McCarthy with the process of getting new lockers. These were a few ideas we had in order to make our locker rooms a better space for our student athletes.

2018-2019

  • Leadership class students, as well as many other student volunteers, painted the walls of the locker rooms with the assistance of Ryan Kent to a much brighter and more modern color scheme.

  • To structure the project, we surveyed the students of the high school and used their feedback. We talked with members of the PE department and the MVRHS administration for additional feedback and guidance.

  • We replaced shower curtains for the girls' locker room, and we proposed ideas for what to do with the shower area in the boys' locker room. We found in the surveys that most students wanted to see the shower areas repurposed, but something is needed for referees, etc.

  • We advocated for new lockers, and one round was added the summer after our project.
