All students in grades K-6 receive a visual arts cycle as part of their required curriculum. Students in our PreK - 4 grade levels receive art throughout the school year as part of the cycle rotation of classes, once a cycle. Kindergarten students receive an extra enrichment period of art each cycle for half of the school year.
As students move into the Lower Middle School in grades 5 and 6, we shift to a more concentrated period of art instruction where all students have an art class every other for 52 minutes for 1/5 of the year. This concentrated focus allows our students to learn what it means to work more regularly and deeply on projects.
The Elementary and Lower Middle School Art Curriculum is based upon the creative use of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design in creating works of art through multiple media and 2D and 3D projects.
