The foundation of our music program begins with our elementary school general music program where all students begin their music education here in Montgomery Township. As students move into our middle school and high school, there are options for students to continue their love of music through our music electives. While most students who choose to pursue music in their middle and high school years focus on band, choir, or orchestra, we have many students who choose take advantage of these exciting elective courses.
Elementary General Music
All students in PreK - 4th grade take a general music class as part of their related arts education program. Our pre-school and kindergarten curriculum introduce students to their formal music education. Our goal is to develop a love and understanding of music and music making in our students during their formative years. Our curriculum focuses on movement, singing voices, beat, rhythm, pitch, performance, composition and more.
Middle School Music Electives
LMS - Music Workshop
LMS - Music Workshop
At LMS, Students have the option of selection Music Workshop as their required music elective. In this class, students focus on learning music history, music theory, but more importantly, focus on creating original music. In the 5th grade class, students also learn the recorder and in the 6th grade class, students learn the guitar.
UMS - Digital Music
UMS - Digital Music
At UMS, students have the option of selecting Digital Music as one of their electives. Digital Music is a course that teaches students the basics of music theory and composition and gives students the opportunity to use digital tools to create original music compositions.
High School Music Electives
MHS - Introduction to Guitar
MHS - Introduction to Guitar
Students at MHS have the option of selecting Introdution to Guitar as one of their electives. In this course, students learn the basics of playing the acoustic guitar including chord progressions, reading progressions, and song writing. Both students with experience and beginners are welcome to take this class.
