LMS Orchestra
Welcome to the LMS Orchestras! At LMS, all students are welcome to choose orchestra as their required music elective. While most of our students begin learning their instrument in 4th grade, we do welcome students to start learning an instrument for the first time in 5th grade. We are very fortunate in that all orchestra classes are scheduled as a class during the school day. Here is some information on how the LMS orchestra program is structured:
There are 4 sections of 5th grade orchestra and 4 sections of 6th grade orchestra.
Each year, there are about 160 students who participate in our LMS Orchestra program!
Every orchestra class has 2 teachers. This allows us to teach lessons, sectionals, chamber music, and help beginning students all during the orchestra class. We never pull students from other classes for orchestra.
Our classes combine together for concerts to create 1 5th grade orchestra and 1 6th grade orchestra that each gives a winter and spring concert.
We take great pride in our LMS students who switch to the double bass in 5th and 6th grades! Each year we have about 15 LMS students playing this amazing instrument! For more information, please contact one of our teachers.
Co-Curricular Chamber Orchestra
The LMS Chamber Orchestra is comprised of students from our 5th and 6th grade classes who are interested in practicing and performing more advanced repertoire. Students must demonstrate a commitment to practice and an advanced skill level on their instrument. Please contact Mrs. Kilgore for more information. This ensemble rehearses on Wednesdays after school each week.
