Beginning in 7th grade, students have the opportunity to select from a variety of theater arts classes which meet as semester long electives. These classes focus on a number of different aspects of theater to include acting, directing, script writing, staging, theater technology, improvisation, and more. We are excited to have hundreds of students participate in our theater classes each year. As part of these classes, students will also have the opportunity to travel to see a professional production, often on Broadway in New York City.
UMS Theater Arts Classes
Our Theater Arts classes allow students to spend time exploring multiple genres and facets of theater. This is a hands on, out of your seat, active class where students learn acting skills, directing, improvisation, scene work, ensemble building, and more.
MHS Theater Arts Classes
The Actor's Studio
Students in this class have the opportunity to dive into acting technique and truly learn theater from the actor's perspective.
Childrens' Theater Play Production (CTPP)
CTPP students prepare a play each year geared for children's audiences. Our elementary school students are invited to MHS to watch these incredible performances. CTPP students have the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of producing a show including acting, directing, stage crew, and technology.
Improv Troupe!
Improvisation is one of the most important genres and skillsets in theater. In this class, students focus on what it means to improvise and develop their skills at doing so. The transferable skills are endless with implications for any career. More importantly, this is a huge amount of fun!
Theater Technology
A huge part of every theater production happens behind the scenes with lighting, sound, set design, stage crew, costuming, and more. Students in this class learn about all of these areas and get hands on experience in our state of the art performing arts center.
