Welcome to the LMS Bands! At LMS, all students are welcome to choose band as their required music elective. While most of our students begin learning their instrument in 4th grade, we do welcome students to start learning an instrument for the first time in 5th and 6th grades. We are very fortunate in that all band classes are scheduled as a class during the school day. Here is some information on how the LMS band program is structured:
There are 5 sections of 5th grade band and 4 sections of 6th grade band.
Each year, there are about 300 students who participate in our LMS Band program!
Students have the opportunity to start learning the tuba and bass clarinet in 5th and 6th grade.
Every band class has 2 or 3 teachers. This allows us to teach lessons, sectionals, chamber music, and help beginning students all during the band class. We never pull students from other classes for band.
Our classes combine together for concerts to create 2 5th grade bands and 2 6th grade bands that each give a winter and spring concert.
Co-Curricular Jazz Band
The Montgomery Jazz program begins here at LMS. Students can audition for our LMS jazz band which meets once a week after school and performs on the Spring Concert. Students work on learning various jazz styles and are introduced to jazz improvisation. Please contact Mr. Rabinowitz for more information.
