Welcome to the UMS Choirs! At UMS, students have the option of selecting choir as one of their elective classes. UMS believes in the importance of our musicians being able to explore multiple elective options. Because of this, a student who elects to participate in choir will still be able to choose one additional elective in 7th grade, and 2 additional electives in 8th grade. We are very fortunate in that all choir classes are scheduled as a class during the school day. Students have their choir class every other day for 80 minutes throughout the school year. Here is some more information about the UMS Choir Program.
The UMS Choirs are divided by grade level. Students in 7th grade may select "7th Grade Choir" and students in 8th grade may select "8th Grade Choir."
Each year, there are about 120 students who participate in the UMS Choir Program.
Our choirs are all team-taught. This allows for sectionals, vocal development, lessons, small group coaching, and more to all take place during the choir class. We never pull students from other classes for choir.
The choirs perform a Winter and Spring Concert each year and also often perform at other events such as community events and local/regional festivals.
Co-Curricular Opportunities
While the UMS Musical Production is not specific to the choral program, this is a wonderful opportunity for students to engage in singing during one of our strongest after school programs. For more information about our theater productions, please click here.
Melodies is a select treble choir for students interested in performing advanced repertoire. All students with treble voices at UMS are encouraged to audition! Rehearsals take place once a week after school.
