Personal Belongings

Personal Belongings

  • Rhode Island General Law 16-21.2-11 prohibits any student in any secondary or elementary school from carrying, possessing, or using a paging device of any kind or a laser pointer on school property.

  • Students are permitted to use cell phones or other music playing devices at the discretion of their teacher. These devices are also allowed before/after school, during lunch and passing periods as long as personal headphones/earbuds are used with one earbud only and they are not a disruption to others.

  • Valuables such as jewelry, watches, money, etc. should be well-guarded by their owners since the school cannot be held responsible for any valuables that are lost or stolen. Any missing valuables should be reported to school authorities and the police department.

Backpacks, Bags, and Purses

Backpacks, bags, and purses are allowed to be carried by students at Middletown High School. Students are encouraged to comply with teacher directions in the classroom relating to where they should place these items during instructional time. A backpack is defined as any device that is actively used to carry books, which includes oversized purses and string backpacks (i.e. sneaker sacks). Backpacks and bags, like other student items, are subject to search and seizure by the MHS Administration and/or Deans at any time.
