Emergency Drills
Emergency Drills and Alarms
Middletown High School proudly adheres to the ALICE School Safety protocols. In conjunction with ALICE and state mandated safety procedures, all students, faculty, staff, and administration are expected to participate in the following emergency drills at various times throughout the school year:
Fire Drills
Exit and fire drill procedures are posted in each classroom area. When the fire alarm sounds, all individuals in the building are expected to leave in an orderly fashion through the nearest accessible exit. Once outside of the building, people should continue to move at least 50 feet away to their class's assigned space and await further instructions.
(Active) Lockdown Drills
All classrooms and offices will be secured from the inside. People should spread out across the secured space doing their best to stay out of sight lines provided by exposed windows and doors. No student may enter or leave a classroom under any circumstances once the drill has started. Individuals should remain quiet in classrooms until an announcement is made over the intercom by school administration or the Middletown Police marking the conclusion of the drill.
Barricade Drills
Barricade drills begin in the same manner as lockdown drills but in this circumstance, individuals will be asked to work together barricading one or more classroom doors. These barricades should be made using existing resources. As this is designed to serve as a practice situation, students should move at a measured pace and should take care to observe the safety and well-being of themselves and their peers.
Evacuation Drills
When the drill begins, students should exit the building via the nearest exit in a quick, controlled manner. In the event that students are asked to move to an alternative, off-site location, details will be provided to the community as needed via news sources and district communication systems indicating specific evacuation locations and re-unification sites.
