Throughout the year Middletown High School traditionally hosts several dances for our students. The most highly anticipated dances include: Homecoming, Junior Prom, and Senior Prom. Please read and review the following policies relating to participation in school dances:
Throughout the year Middletown High School traditionally hosts several dances for our students. The most highly anticipated dances include: Homecoming, Junior Prom, and Senior Prom. Please read and review the following policies relating to participation in school dances:
- All dances/events sponsored by any class or group affiliated with Middletown High School will be subject to rules and regulations of the school as well as all disciplinary action. .
- Students must be free of any pending disciplinary action and they must be academically eligible in order to attend any school sponsored dance or extra-curricular activity (including Junior and/or Senior prom).
- Students arriving at the dance/event who are not in compliance with the school’s dress code may not be permitted into the dance/event.
- Middle school students are not to participate in high school dances for safety and accountability reasons.
- Individuals over 21 years of age are not permitted to attend any Middletown High School dance in a participatory role
- In order to be eligible for attendance at any social function (including dances) occurring on a school day, students must attend school on the day on which the function occurs. If the dance is set to take place on a weekend, student attendees must have attended a full day of school on the Friday prior to the dance
- Students dismissed from school prior to 12:26pm may not attend extra-curricular activities (i.e. clubs, athletic practices/games, drama productions, concerts, dances, etc.), including MHS proms that day unless provided with written documentation of destination. Students are expected to return to school once appointment is complete.
- In order to participate in extracurricular activities, (i.e. clubs, athletic practices/games, drama productions, concerts, dances, etc.) students must be present for at least 80% of the school day. This equates to arriving at school prior to 9:14am OR being dismissed from school after 12:26pm. Any student who has missed more than 74 minutes of the school day will be deemed ineligible for that day. As stated in the bullet above, students are expected to return to school once appointment is complete with documentation. Documentation is to be brought to the attendance office to file.
- Upon the student’s or parent’s notification of an assigned suspension or other disciplinary actions, the student will be prohibited from participating in ANY extra-curricular activities or school sponsored events, until the consequence has been served.
- Dance tickets must be purchased in advance of the event. Tickets are often sold at school lunches. Guests who are not students at MHS must be accompanied by a Middletown High School student and must submit a letter from the Principal of their school upon entering. (Guest forms for dances may be obtained from the advisor of the class/club sponsoring the event.)
- No attendee shall be admitted later than 30 minutes after the start of a dance.
- Once a student is at a dance, they will be required to remain in attendance until the last hour of the function. The only exception allowed will be upon parental request, with prior approval of the administration.
- If for any reason a student leaves the dance, they will not be readmitted.
- All dances will be held on Friday nights as to not interfere with with the exception of Homecoming and Senior Prom. Dances are routinely held from 7 - 10pm.
- All school rules and policies apply, including dress, decorum and behavior. The student will be removed from the dance if inappropriate behavior is displayed.
- Sexually explicit dancing will not be tolerated. Any student who violates this rule will be removed from the dance and their parent/guardian will be contacted.
- School officials will use a breathalyzer device for all student participants at all school dances and proms. This includes all student guests, regardless of age. Students who refuse to participate will not be permitted into the event. Refer to Middletown Public Schools Policy 7030R for more information.
- School officials reserve the right to utilize the breathalyzer in the event a student appears to be impaired at any school function. A parent will also be contacted.

- All students should be familiar with and must follow the Substance Use and Student Wellness Policy (Policy # 7010) whether they attend events on or off the high school campus.
- All students are required to attend Substance Use and Student Wellness Policy, *formally the Chemical Health and Student Safety, Workshops with a parent/guardian.
