I can apply my understanding of the structure and properties of matter by professionally demonstrating a chemical reaction and explaining how it occurs verbally, visually and in writing.
We went to little Molas lake to test the lake water to see if the water quality was healthy or not. My group was learning about the turbidity of the water which is how clear the water is. We found out that the NTU of the lake was around 10 which is healthy. We did many projects on the water and wound that the water is healthy in basically everything.
We are making anchor charts for unit one of our science section. We have to add to them everyday after science class making sure that we put down all the information that we learned that day. At the end of the unit we turn this in and get our grade.
This quiz talked about the things that we have learned so far in science, like what protons are made of, what the atomic number means, what the valence shell is, and then finally the difference between an ionic bond and covalent bond. I got 6/6 which is a meets. I think a goal I would make for myself for the future is to be a little more prepared because on the last 2 questions I didn't really know the answer so I guessed. I could have added more detail to my Anchor chart to help me solve my problem.
This is my letter to the 5th graders. We had to make this about the Laws of mass. This is where mass cannot be created or destroyed. On this we had a list of things that we had to add. One of which was a diagram representing how mass moves through atoms while they bond. On this project I got an Exceeds because I had a lot of detail on it and I wrote a lot. I gave my letter to Mrs. Isaak to give to the 5th graders.
In this quiz there were 8 questions about ionic bonds, covalent bonds, physical changes, chemical reactions, and finding the difference between a subscript and coefficient in a problem. If you got 1-3 questions right then you got a developing. If you got a 4-5 questions right then you got an approaching. Then finally if you got a 6-8 then you would get a meets. I got 1 question wrong making me have a meets. I mixed up what a subscript was. I said a subscript is how many molecules are in a reaction and the real answer is the subscript in how many atoms of the element are in a molecule. I think I could have gotten this right if i just looked at the answers a little bit longer.
At the end of the science unit we had a test. This test was about atoms. I think I did pretty well on this because I got 36/37. Although I got a good grade, I did think I could have been more prepared for this beacuse in a lot of the questions I had to guess.

In this exhibition I got the experiment called the gummy bear sacrifice. How this reaction works is we first pour potassium chlorate into a test tube. Then we heat it up and the potassium chlorate decomposes and mixed with the oxygen in the air creating potassium chloride. Finally we drop a gummy bear in and the chloride then rapidly reacts with the sugar creating a violent burst of flames, light, and sound.
Long-Term Learning Target:
I can demonstrate my understanding of wave physics by designing and constructing an escape room that incorporates these principles effectively.
Currently in class we are learning about light waves and how they travel. For this unit we are making anchor charts and have to write about what we learned in class. We have had many little labs in class about this and I have learned a lot so far.
Currently we have only filled out 3 pages of this and are continuing to fill it out as we go. When we make these, you can either make one on paper or digitally, I chose digitally.
Each day after we have science class, we have to write and summarize what we just learned. By the end of the unit we will turn it in and get a grade.
We had a test about the different types of waves. I found this topic very challenging and didn't get a very good grade. In this test I got a developing. I got this because for most of the answers I just guessed and I wasn't prepared at all for the test. In the future I will use this experience to help me improve my next test.
In science we are having an escape room which parents have to learn about waves and solve puzzles to escape. Me and my group each made clues and puzzles for our parents to solve. I made a website that was about amplitude of waves and then it had a little blurb talking about how amplitude effects and connects to many other parts of the waves. At the bottom of my article it had a riddle that the parents had to solve which then led them to my second clue. This one was a newspaper which I hid under a rug. When they found it, they had to read it and then use the red letters in it to find a secret message. Finally I made a crime board which I used one of my partners posters and put it in the middle so that it was harder to find.
Clue #1
This is a website that gives information about waves and when the finish reading it then they scroll to the bottom and then there is a riddle that leads them to their next clue
Clue #2
This is a Newspaper that I made about waves. It talks about how frequency and wavelength affects the wave and how it looks. after they read it they find an unscrambler which they use the red letters to put into it and then get a question that they have to solve.
I made a crime board as a prop for my exhibition. I used characters from the actual movie and created it based on what happened in the movie. I think I did pretty well.
