At the beginning of the year we took a reading diagnostic on i-ready. My overall score was early 8th grade but in some areas I got above my grade. I am really glad I got this because in the past few years I would rush through the test adn get a really low grade. Though this year I put some time and effort into it and I did pretty well.
We are reading the book Just Mercy. It's about the injustices of everyday society. It is told by Bryan Stevenson and he is a lawyer in the late 1900s. He fights against unfair punishments and helps people of color have a fairer punishment. We just finished the book and I thought it was pretty good. Soon we are going to watch the movie. It will be about Bryan Stevenson trying to get Walter McMillian out of the death row.
We had a Socratic seminar about the injustices in the book Just Mercy and how they connect to the Constitutional Convention. We had to find quotes in the book and find how they relate to what we were talking about. The quotes I found were, "Black men were 8 times more likely to be shot by the police than white men." (pg 41) this is one of the quotes I shared in the seminar to show how based on your race you get treated differently than others. In the seminar I got a meets because I talked more than 2 times.
in this we had to find research about a topic that we wanted to learn about. I wanted to learn about gener injustices. after we made this page we had to write an email to Mr. Hilding to tell him why we wanted to research this. I got my first pick so I will be researching about the gender injustices.
For our TED talks we had to choose a topic that was unjust. I chose The history of women's rights and how their rights have changed over time. We had to research and find 4 credible sources to support our claim and find information about it. We are going to have an exhibition about it in TED talk format.
