Adaptations of the First Americans

We are working on a project about the First Americans. We are researching about our region and will later make a 3D model of their homes and where they lived.

My goal is: My goal for humanities is to work with my team more and not work like I am the only one in it.

Chaco Canyon Field Study

When we went to Chaco Canyon we went on three hikes. So the first one we went on was called Pueblo Bonito. On this hike we walked around looking at places that were their homes. We walked thru them and got to see all the many rooms in it. Another one was called Casa Rincanada. This one was this place that had a spot where when it was a solstice it had a window that would show a square on the other side of the wall and it told when the shortest and the longest day of the year would be. We also found a lot of pottery everywhere but a lot right there. Last but not least there is Chetro Ketl. So on this one it was like a scavenger hunt to find the petrogliphs. I saw so many cool ones. The sad thing about it was that people wrote their initials into the rocks and that caught more people's attention more than the petrogliphs did. Some Things I learned was that when archaeologists are digging for a site they don't use shovels they use brushes so they don't damage it. One other thing I learned was when I saw these really round holes in the rock that went into it like a couple inches was used for logs to go into so it could give their homes support. They would also stand on their houses and make petogliphs above them and that is why some of them are so high.

Adaptations of the first Americans

The learning target of our first exhibition was that I could understand how some of the first people to live in North America adapted to their climates and geography. The region my group studied was the Southeast. In this project we had to make a model. The grade I got was an Exceeds in building it. Exceeds means that I went over the standard grade. I got it by showing the accurate information on my model, we put a lot of detail and hard work into the house, the glue and duck tape we used were covered with building material, and the written porting of our project was made in an artistic manner. In the project research I got a meets. That means I met the standard. I got this by writing my script in my own words and used multiple sources to get information. In group work I got a meet because I worked with my team with a good attitude. My total score I got was a meets. I am really happy with our exhibition and how our model turned out to be.
