• Call 911
• Have the birthing person lie down and pant with each contraction
• Deliver the head slowly
• When the head is out, check with your fingers to see if the cord is around the neck. Loosen it gently, either by pulling it over the baby’s head or loosening it so that the baby can deliver through it.
• The head will then turn toward the birther’s left or right. The birther should then push with the next contraction to deliver the shoulders. Deliver the top shoulder first (depress the baby’s head toward the bed), then the bottom shoulder (lift the head toward the ceiling).
• Put the baby on the woman’s abdomen, dry it off and cover them both with something dry. Be sure to keep them warm with dry blankets or towels.
