We try not to put too much emphasis on your due date since very few babies are actually born on that day. You will be less open to disappointment if you focus on a larger block of time. You should expect your baby to be born from 37 – 42 weeks of gestation.
Page the midwife with any of the following:
• If you think you may have ruptured membranes (your water broke), sometimes it is unmistakable with a big gush of fluid, other times it may be a trickle that makes you feel “wet” all the time
• Bleeding from the vagina
• Decreased fetal movement
• Uncomfortable contractions for 1 hour or more every 5 minutes lasting 60 seconds
• To page the midwife call 412-321-6880 option #5, then follow the prompts.
You may not be ready for admission with the first phone call, so don’t be discouraged if you’re told to stay home a while longer. It is helpful for the midwife, however, to know that you are experiencing labor symptoms. She will ask you questions about the symptoms you are having, give suggestions to help you and set a plan of when to call back.
