At the birth center the midwife will perform a newborn physical exam before discharge including: weight, length, additional measurements, a reflex exam, complete body assessment including vital signs, suck response, and hip exam.
A copy is faxed to your pediatric provider, and a copy will be given to you to take to your well-child visit. For those delivering in the center, it is required that infants to be seen by your pediatrician by 72 hours of age.
For those delivering in the hospital, a pediatrician will examine your baby there. You will usually then see your pediatric provider within the next week unless told otherwise.
