Birth Center care is a model of care that respects the normal process of labor and birth for low risk pregnancies. With normal labor and birth, intervention is typically not necessary. However, there are times when labor does not follow a normal course and medically appropriate intervention will be recommended. Intervention can be a simple as position changes or getting out of the tub, to more complex medical interventions at the hospital.
Regardless, the midwives are very sensitive to the fact that when interventions are necessary, they are usually not planned or desired. Please trust that the midwives will communicate with you throughout the entire process, and that they believe firmly in shared decision making. Our goal is a safe and satisfying birth with a healthy mother and baby.
