Weekly Update 5/15/26
MS Showcase
Some of our middle school students will be performing in "Not-So Grimm Tales" tonight and tomorrow at 7 pm in the Performing Art Center. Students have been preparing for the event over the past few months and we are excited to see them show off their singing and acting skills. Come out and support our performing arts!
Lockdown and Fire Drills
As you are likely aware, we had an unintentional fire alarm activation on Thursday, 5/14. Due to our training, the faculty, staff and students quickly exited the building while we investigated the source of the alarm. Once the alarm is activated, we must wait for the fire department to confirm and reset the alarm. Given the cold and rainy weather, we decided to have the students walk to the high school, where we were able to take attendance and await further direction.
After reviewing the camera footage, it was determined that a errant ball hit the pull station in the gym at just the right angle to set off the alarm.
We also had already planned for a fire drill today (Friday) and that went very well. This means that we only have a lockdown drill, which we will practice later next week.
Thank you to our custodial staff, the U-Crest Fire Department and the Cheektowaga Police department for their quick and professional response.
End of Year Announcements
We are in the last push of the year. Teachers are beginning to review for exams, as they continue to cover new material. Transportation and Vehicle Safety
When driving on campus, please adhere to traffic control devices (stop signs, speed limits, one-way drives, etc.). We have had numerous closes calls and we again, want to make sure our students are safe. Additionally, be sure to stop when the red lights on buses are flashing and do not attempt to board a bus, or other district transportation without the explicit permission of the bus driver or school official.
We have many clubs and intramurals starting to meet already. Please see the list of the clubs, meeting times and locations below.
21st Century Program/YWCA
We are pleased to announce Maryvale Intermediate and Middle Schools are partnering with YWCA Western New York to provide an extended learning program through the US Department of Education 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) grant.
