Weekly Update 1/30/26

Report Cards for the second marking period are posted in Parent and Student Portals.  If you are having trouble logging in, email portalsupport@maryvaleufsd.org  for support.

Jammin' in January is cancelled and will be rescheduled for the spring.

Helping our Community

We understand that this time of year can bring dangerous conditions for our students who walk to school or have to walk a couple blocks to or from their bus stops.   Please help our students and your neighbors by shoveling your sidewalks.  Also, school closings and other important information will be sent out via Parent Square.  If you don't have the app or an account, scan the QR code below and get connected.

While you have the shovel out, consider shoveling out the nearest fire hydrant.  Firefighters get an increased number of fires this time of year due to heaters and electrical overloads.   Having access to the hydrants can save precious minutes.  Considering a fire doubles in size about every minute, the two or three minutes saved by having the hydrant clear could very well save your house.

Attendance

This time of year also brings more absences due to weather and illness.  While we want students to be safe and not spread germs, be mindful of the number of absences your student has.  The number of absences your students has so far can be found on the bottom of their report card, as well as on Student and Parent Portal.

Being half way through the school year, having 9 or more absences is considered "chronically absent".  Students who are chronically absent may not be eligible for field trips and will not be eligible for final exam exemptions.   National statistics, as well as our own data in Maryvale, show that students who are chronically absent in middle school are HALF as likely to graduate on time.

PTO News

The PTO has a couple of fundraisers going.  Change Wars is in full swing.  The Intermediate and Middle Schools are competing to determine which principal will get pied in the face.  We think Ms. Bancroft could use a facial, so please help our Middle School raise the most.  The collection jars are in the main office.

Valentine's Grams will also be sold starting on Monday, February 2nd through February 11th.  Valentine's Grams will be distributed on Friday, February 13th.  See the flyer below for more information.
