Weekly Update 9/18/26
We have had a great start to the school year. Thank you to all of you that have worked to make sure our students are in school on time, prepared and ready to learn. We appreciate your partnership in our students' education.
On Thursday, 7 Brews donated 700 lemonades and 120 iced coffees to the Intermediate and Middle Schools. As part of our attendance challenge, the two homerooms at each grade level with the best attendance received a lemonade. We will be posting the attendance rates for each homeroom weekly and will be offering rewards for the best attendance rates, as well as the most improved attendance rates.
We have also added an arcade style basketball game and a larger air hockey table to the Maryvale Activity Center (MAC). Mrs. Fowler-Herdlein and Mrs. Battistoni have also added more games, crafts and updated other activities for students to enjoy. Students can go to the MAC during studyhalls as a reward for passing all their classes, maintaining good attendance and meeting our S.O.A.R. expectations.
Next week we will have a spirit week, leading up to Homecoming events. Below are the themes for each day. More information is in the flyer below.
Monday - Color Day
6th Grade is Green
7th Grade is Blue
8th Grade is Red
Tuesday - Movie Day
Wednesday - Jersey Day
Thursday - Pajama Day
Friday - Maryvale Day
Drop-off & Pick-up
The parking lot in the front of the school is used by buses. Cars driving through this parking lot and driveway pose a serious hazard to our students who are getting on and off the buses, and walking to their various after school activities.
If you are dropping off or picking up your student from school, please do so by following the flow of traffic and utilizing the back doors of the middle school.
We understand that there have been some delays due to the timing of the signal at the Union Road entrance/exit. We are working with our School Resource Officer and the Department of Transportation to remedy this issue. Keep in mind that our buses have been running on time and using them can help you avoid the traffic delays experienced by driving your student to school.
Lastly, Officer Cookfair has been helping us enforce our expectations the past two weeks. If you are found to be driving recklessly and/or disobeying traffic control devices, Officer Cookfair will be delivering tickets to your home starting next week. We ask for your cooperation in making our campus safe for students, staff and other parents.
Safety Drills
The annual county-wide Emergency Early Dismissla Drill will tak place on Friday, October 2nd. Middle school students will be released at 1:55 pm. Please see the letter from Mr. D'Angelo below for more information.
We will be conducting our annual evacuation drills next week. New York State will only permit us to conduct one such drill each day, so expect a few fire drills next week and the week after, weather permitting. We will be conducting six (6) evacuation drills in the next two weeks.
We will also be practicing two (2) lockdown drills in the coming months. We will send out more information about the timing of these drills as those date approach.
21st Century Program/YWCA
We are pleased to announce Maryvale Intermediate and Middle Schools are partnering with YWCA Western New York to provide an extended learning program through the US Department of Education 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) grant.
The program is provided free of charge to all families. The program will operate Monday through Thursday, from 2:15pm to 5:45pm for Middle School students. More information and the registration link will be released later this month.
