Weekly Update - 3/8/24

It is important that we serve others and are active in supporting our fellow community members.   I am proud of the many students who are do just that through various organizations.   In fact, the Cheektowaga Youth Engaged in Service (Y.E.S.) program  recently celebrated teen volunteers who dedicated time in 2023.  The following Maryvale Middle School students were recognized for their service: Matthew Blotzer, Ava Brezinski, Miabella Devans, Erik Finger, Julia Guerra, Gabriella Hecht, Aaron Jones, Bethany Lama Sherpa, Emma Misener, Celina Pllack, Olivia Schmidt, Lucas Swierczynski, Kristine Tran, Zooey Wagner, Scarlett Westfieldd, Austyn Wicher and Zoey Ziarniak.  Thank to these students and their parents and guardians for supporting their service to our community.

While I am on the topic of recognition, eighth grader, Zoe Serrano, and Spanish teacher, Ms. Amanda Boos, will be recognized by the Board of Education as the student and teacher of the month.  Both of these individuals have made contributions to improving the culture in our schools and are role models for all of our students.  The next Board of Education meeting will take place on Monday, March 11th at 6:00 pm.

Our music department is planning a recruitment concert for our current 5th graders on March 13th.  We have worked hard coming out of the pandemic to rebuild our music program and encourage our incoming 6th graders to join band, orchestra and/or chorus.  Playing instruments and singing can be therapeutic and promotes cognitive function.  It is also a great way to meet new friends.

On March 15th, our music department will also be hosting their annual Pops Concert in the High School's William E. Fichtner Performing Arts Center at 7:00 pm.  Come on out and enjoy a great compliment of middle school and high school ensembles.

As spring comes upon us, I want to remind students and parents to review the dress code.  It can be found on page 12 of our Code of Conduct.  Additionally, get outside and enjoy some sun and fun.  Increasing activity outside will help promote physical and mental health.
