The Instructional Innovation Division is growing from its start date, July 1, 2020 and has acted quickly to serve the needs of the NPC Community. The division houses support from the Libraries, Instructional Technology and Curriculum Support, Perkins Grant, Early College, and Office of Accessibility and Inclusion. We serve our students, faculty, staff, and community partners.
Innovation Connections is a monthly newsletter that features division updates and college-wide innovation and collaboration. Contact Shannon Motter if you wish to contribute to the content.
As we approach the end of the year, I would like to update you on the three major projects that will continue into 2022. The three projects, HyFlex Pilot, Open Textbook for Rural Arizona, and Early College Opportunities to Advance Degree Attainment (ECOADA), are expected to have a positive impact on enrollment, student success, and college sustainability...
NPC is one of the participating community colleges in rural Arizona in a joint project to create eResources such as eTextbooks for their students. These resources will be shared freely with others.
The group was awarded a three year Department of Education grant for over $800,000.
NPC faculty are already hard at work on their eResources.

The Federal Postsecondary Perkins Grant (“Perkins”) funds equipment, salaries, supplies, and faculty professional development for Career and Technical Education, Nursing/Allied Health, and Education programs at NPC. When many CTE, NAH, and Education classes went on-line due to COVID, the grant contributed to Tech Hub salaries and to development of HyFlex courses, which increased access and support for students.

The Perkins grant brought just over $400,000 into NPC in the 2021 grant year; for 2022 it is just over $414,000. The Business Office, Purchasing, CTE/NAH/Education Deans, faculty members, and the Division of Instructional Innovation work together to plan and manage the Perkins grant. The IR department provides extensive data and reporting support. By means of this interdisciplinary teamwork, NPC students and faculty gain access to the latest equipment and training for their educational progress.
If there are any questions about Perkins, please contact Ann Hilliard, Perkins Grant Coordinator (ann.hilliard@npc.edu) or Dr. Wei Ma, Dean of Instructional Innovation (wei.ma@npc.edu).

I love the variety.
What areas in this job are your strong points and how will this make you a great resource?
I am a strong advocate for students.
What are your favorite things to do/eat/read?
I enjoy DIY projects, I love eating the vegetables I hated eating as a kid, I love reading great mysteries especially Harlen Coben.
What's something you want to do once the pandemic is over?
Surprisingly, I want to be social. Strange feeling for an introvert, but it's true.
We are so excited about our big idea.
What is our big idea?
Getting together groups of 3-6 people from across college, from different campuses and departments, working in varying capacities. The Lunch and Lead cohort would meet for virtual coffee dates, at first. Maybe it is an administrator, a faculty members, an adminstrative assistant, and a front office staff--all from different campuses; people that rarely interact due to space and roles. Mix them together and they could learn about each others' work and experiences. And from this, maybe they find some solutions to the problems that they each face. We can create as many groups as we need.
Groups make their own agenda, or no agenda at all. They meet and have fun!
Leaders aren't born, they are made. Leaders can be quiet and complete their work in many ways. Do you feel like you have more to give? You can be a leader!

Are You NPC Faculty?
Then answer just a few questions about testing at NPC. Survey closes at the end of December. You should have received the survey from your department chair.
We want to know what you think! What do your students need? What do you need? Are you now using Respondus and Moodle testing resources? We want to know!
Historically, testing has been offered in the campus libraries. But space and staffing are limited. Let's move forward and find the best ways to serve our students.
