In second grade we continued built upon the idea of a portrait, but changed it slightly to make it cubist. Pablo Picasso was the most famous cubist artist, taking pieces of his subject, breaking them apart, and placing them back together in unusual ways. We also discussed portraits in multiple perspectives, learning about the profile and frontal view of a face. Students created their cubist portraits with oil pastels on small paper, and then rearranged and glued in unusual ways.
