Agenda:

  1. Explication workshop time/reading time for 30 minutes

  2. Introduce new unit: Social Commentary!

  3. Read "On Turning Ten" and make annotations.

  4. Get into groups to further discuss the social commentary and annotate. In your group:

    • Discuss what you think it means.

    • Mark any SHIFTS that you notice in the piece.

    • Highlight at least three devices that you notice (and agree on a couple that you think are REALLY instrumental).

    • In 1-2 sentences, write down what your group thinks the social commentary is and be ready to defend why.

  5. Present!

    • Pick one person to present your groups social commentary to the class. (Be ready to defend your answer!)

    • Starbursts for winner--who has the best evidence for their social commentary!?

Homework: Explication paper is due by the start of class on Tuesday (3/1).
