Agenda:

1. Independent reading--shoot for 1-2 stickies today!

2. Journal entry #2

   • How did the author choose to start the story? What are your thoughts on this?

   • Have you learned anything about the setting of the story yet? Where is it taking place?

   • What are your initial reactions to the characters so far? What are they like?

   • What is the trouble that has been introduced thus far? Can you predict any future trouble?

   • What are some questions you already have?

   • What do you notice/think about the structure or format of the novel? (Point of view, journal entries scattered throughout, doodles, etc.)

3. Meet with your book club group

   • Group challenge!

   • Next, figure out who read the least (so that you don't spoil!) and then discuss your journal entries/talk through the above questions together.

4. Introduce Creative Writing Assignment

5. In notebooks: make a list of ideas you have for your writing!

Homework:

• Read to your assigned pages in your book club novel.

• Continue brainstorming for your Creative Writing Assignment.

• Be prepared for possible reading quiz.
