1. Independent reading with choice novels

2. Introduction to rhetoric

3. Read the article "I Recommend Eating Chips" and analyze what strategic moves the author makes to persuade the audience

   • Journal entry: What is your reaction to the article? What did it make you think, feel, or wish to do? What is the RHETORICAL SITUATION? (Speaker, audience, purpose).

   • Mark/highlight/annotate your copy of the document

     1. How does the author engage and connect with the audience?

     2. What does the author do that makes the passage persuasive? Any key elements? Quotes? Strategic moves? (Higlight and comment on your Google Doc)

     3. Ethos, pathos, logos?

4. Assign vocabulary

   • Vocabulary quiz on 10/6

5. Introduce podcast/documentary assignment--due 10/8
