The Faraday Challenge

Last module, over 100 students from across the Leigh Academies Trust took part in the Faraday Challenge inter school competition, across 3 days.

This annual challenge, sponsored by the The Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management (IHEEM), is aimed at 12-13 year olds who hope to develop their skills, and to inspire them to think about how engineering applies to their own lives.

The students had to use their imagination and existing knowledge to tackle a real-world physics and engineering challenge. This year, students were asked to design and build equipment which would make children in hospital more comfortable during their stay. Working in teams of five, our students had a limited number of tokens to exchange for equipment to develop amazing products such as robots and levers.

Congratulations to the winning team from our school (see picture) who were Merci, Melanie, Charlotte, Kian, Jackson and Calvin, for their robot!
