Year 12 Under the Spotlight

Our very own Charlotte Jenman in Year 12 has once again made us extremely proud as last week she flew out to Croatia where she fought in the Zagreb Cadet European Cup for Judo. There were 54 girls in her group and she had 6 fights with contenders from various countries such as France, Poland, Switzerland, Kyrgyzstan, Austria and Romania. Out of the six fights Charlotte managed to secure 5 wins and came away with a bronze medal. Charlotte was the only GBR player to medal in this event out of the 30 boys and girls who also competed from England.

Charlotte's current rankings are as follows:

GBR Cadet Ranking 1st

GBR Junior Ranking 2nd

GBR Senior Ranking 8th

World Cadet Ranking 10th

This is a huge achievement as other European countries were still training and competing whilst England were unable to do anything for 18 months due to the pandemic. Charlotte has also qualified and will be selected to compete for GBR at the European Cadet Championships later this year and there is also a very good possibility that Charlotte will be selected to compete for GBR at the European Youth Olympics, also later this year. We have high hopes we will be watching Charlotte in the Paris Olympic Games in 2024!

Year 13 Progression

Module 4 has seen the introduction of the tutor time 'Wordle Challenge' in aid of stress relief for the Year 13s who are steadfast in preparation of the Module 5 external examinations. Students are recording their groups progress with the winning tutor group receiving a special Easter treat.

In Module 5 the Post-16 Progression Journey will continue with cooking classes being held on Wednesday 18th and 25th of May. Here students will learn basic, healthy and quick recipes and kitchen skills that will support them whilst working and studying over the next few years. There will also be workshops for 'Gap Year Travellers' that will support the planning, finance, safety and well-being of students wishing to experience life abroad. We will look forward to those postcards!

This module sees the current Year 13 Student Leadership Team passing the baton to a new cohort starting in Module 6. The current SLT have worked dutifully with specific groups they have run, charities they have worked for and ongoing activities and events they have participated in this past year; their support in the transition of the new group will be invaluable. The last day of this module, Friday May 27th, will mark the official Leavers Celebration for all of our current Year 13s. We will share a follow up on all of these events, as well as exam result news from IB results day in July, in the Summer Newsletter.
