Year 8 football success

After an impressive 2-0 win over Wilmington Grammar School, the Year 8 football team have secured qualification for the District Cup Semi Finals, taking place on the 21st of March. They have done so by continuously coming to training and working hard to improve themselves. Communication and teamwork have also come a long way over the last couple of months. As Covid impacted us last year, there were no fixtures running and this was actually the first time that the boys have been able to participate in a cup competition, so we are immensely proud of their achievements!

Year 9 football team

The Year 9 football team played Wilmington Grammar School in their last league match of the District Cup where they faced their toughest opponent yet. After a very tough first half where Wilmington dominated and led 4-0 at the break, the Leigh Academy team demonstrated the word RESILIENCE in its deepest form. They did not give up, challenged for every tackle and worked extremely hard as a team to eventually come back to 4-4.

Two goals from Aleksander Kasperek got the Leigh back into the game, a goal 10 minutes from the end by Robert Gorgu made it 4-3 and an outstanding 40 yard free kick from Evren Hassan tied that game at 4-4. The team spirit from the group was outstanding!
