Week of Languages with Cucina

Following the popular culinary success during the Week of Languages on 27th September for the Year 7, The Modern Foreign Languages Learning Area offered the same opportunity to Year 9, during Tutor Time, to experience firsthand exotic foods in our canteen. Mrs Julia Collins, Principal, offered one free food item to every single student so that they would not miss out on this incredible cultural opportunity.

Cucina and the Modern Foreign Languages team worked together to design a menu which offered a selection of typical dishes. Whilst they were eating in the canteen, students had to complete a range of cultural and linguistic activities, with their Chromebook, about the country which they tasted the food from.

The menu was as follows:

Monday for Chaucer - churros with chocolate, and ham and cheese croissant

Tuesday for Darwin - lemon madeleines and danish chocolate twist

Wednesday for da Vinci - pains au chocolat, and churros with chocolate

Thursday for Brunel - lemon madeleines, and ham and cheese croissant

Students had, therefore, the opportunity to access different culinary experiences and share these with their peers from other colleges.

Mon Pere Ne Me Comprend Pas

On Wednesday 23rd March, Year 9 students who study French at The Leigh Academy were given the opportunity to watch a play in French by company group Onatti. We were joined by 125 students from Wilmington Academy. The play is called "Mon pere ne me comprend pas" (my Dad does not understand me).

The play started at 10:00am and students were engaged from the start. The play was quite interactive and students were able to follow the plot. There were funny moments and everyone had a good time.

The students enjoyed it very much and found the process beneficial to their French studies.
