DRAMA

Key Stage 3:

Year 7 have been exploring Bugsy Malone and the theme of ‘gangs’ and why people join them. They have developed characters, rehearsed and performed duologues between the two gang leaders, Fat Sam and Dandy Dan, delivering some fantastic accents on the way.

Year 8 were given a stimulus of a messy room and had to devise a play in groups. This entailed brainstorming, creating story lines, developing characters and structuring a piece of theatre using various drama techniques.

Year 9 have moved onto script work and are either rehearsing ‘Too Much Punch For Judy’ by Mark Wheeller, or ‘DNA’ by Dennis Kelly. This has involved focusing on one practitioner's character development, line learning, blocking and they will be performing to the younger year groups this module.

Key Stage 4:

Year 10 students have been working on a performance of ‘Too Much Punch For Judy' using various interpretations.

Year 11 have been devising their final performance for their external examination. The stimulus given by the exam board was ‘Better Together’, and they have to show the value of performing arts and the positive impact that can have on society.

Key Stage 5:

Year 12s have been working on ‘Things I Know To Be True’ by exploring in-depth emotions to communicate their monologues.

Finally the Year 13s received their stimulus from the exam board and are devising their final performance using Brechtian techniques combined with Stanislavski. Three of the Year 13 students have been offered first and second auditions/interviews for various drama schools such as East 15, Rose Bruford School of Speech and Drama, Italia Conte and The Southbank….fingers crossed!
