Science
Curriculum intent:
Science is an important part of our everyday lives from the technology we use to the knowing about the impacts we have on the planet. The science curriculum at LBHS aims to develop students’ knowledge of fundamental scientific facts across the three science disciplines (biology, chemistry and physics) and how the body of scientific knowledge develops over time (the process of science).
We believe that all students, regardless of background, should be equipped with powerful knowledge so that they can achieve their best in all aspects of their life.
Students will develop knowledge of scientific practical investigation, use of models and how to analyse and evaluate data. It is our intention that the science curriculum upholds the school’s values by:
Promoting lifelong learning and giving students the courage to follow the future of their choosing without limits.
Be curious about the world around them, being able to ask scientific questions and to be critical when presented with new information about current affairs.
Encouraging students to be part of the local and global community by working collaboratively and thinking about the impacts of their actions and the actions of others.
Showing compassion for people who are in a different situation to themselves by considering how some applications of science can lead to ethical and moral issues.
