The History Department at LBHS aims to allow students to gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of local history as well as Britain’s past and that of the wider world. We investigate issues at a local, national and international level in Medieval, Early Modern and Modern time periods. We study Britain’s influence on the wider world and the history and influence of different peoples and places across time.
Objective: Our objective is to encourage pupils to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence and develop perspective and judgement. We help students develop an understanding of how to apply and write about historical concepts such as causation; continuity and change; significance; consequence and diversity. We develop confidence in orating and debating historical issues and evaluate historical interpretations.
Implementation:The learning experience of students is at the forefront of planning, therefore materials are regularly reviewed, with the planning of lessons building upon previous knowledge and skills gained by students. Our intention is that learning is embedded and sequential to contribute to long term memory, with learning becoming progressively more challenging through the Key Stages.
