Dear parents and caregivers,
I hope this newsletter finds you well. I would like to take this opportunity to update you on some of the exciting things we have been doing in the classroom and during our recent school camp at Camp Adair in Hunua.
Camp Adair is a fantastic location for our students to experience the outdoors, and I would like to share some interesting facts about the area.
The Hunua Ranges, where Camp Adair is located, is a rugged mountain range located in the Auckland region of New Zealand. The area is rich in natural beauty and is home to a diverse range of native flora and fauna.
At Camp Adair, our students were able to explore this beautiful area and learn more about the natural environment. They participated in a range of outdoor activities, including the confidence course , team building challenges, and archery. They learned the value of teamwork, communication, and problem-solving as they worked together to complete tasks and overcome obstacles. I am thrilled to see how they have grown and developed over the course of the camp.
I would like to take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt thanks to all the parents and caregivers who volunteered their time and support to make our camp a success. Your presence, assistance, and encouragement were invaluable, and we could not have done it without you. Your contributions were a testament to the strength of our school community, and we are grateful for your ongoing support.
Kindly,
Base 4 Teachers.
Base 4 had a lot of fun at camp! Two of the activities were Archery and the Confidence Course. Archery is where you use a bow and arrow and try to shoot a target. It was a little bit hard to aim for the target but we tried our best. Now let’s move onto the Confidence Course (the muddiest activity at camp adair). So the confidence course was about doing many obstacles in the mud. Some kids were coming out and saying “that's it i’m not going in there anymore”
That freaked me out. I was like “man seriously, is it true?”
Then it was the final day of camp and I was doing the Confidence Course. I was really scared then I realised there was no other choice so I decided I had to do It so I stepped in. We all showed great courage and confidence by completing the entire course.

You will never guess what we did last week in Week 8! Base 4 got to go to camp at Camp Adair 2023! It was on March 22nd to March 24th 2023. Today I am telling you 2 activities at camp; Super Fox and Flying Kiwi. Let’s start from Super Fox.
Super fox was a very long zipline. We wore a harness full of buckles called Carabinas. The Carabinas were then attached to a rope that was connected to the zipline. There was another pair of ropes which you drop down at the end of the ride and someone will pull the rope and do a brake.
Flying Kiwi was a rope which was attached like a pulley with a buckle at the end which connects to your harnesses carabina and then at the other end of the rope pulley there was a long runway where people hold the rope and run backwards. With this, you get pulled up to the top. Later, we did rock paper scissors and after getting down, we got some balls from the bucket and get pulled again. Then, we tried to throw the ball(s) in the bucket. These activities were really fun and challenging. Many students overcame their fear of heights.

Base 4 did something called the Mudslide. The Mudslide was really fun. Most of the people in my group didn't want to do it at first, including Rahini and I. Eventually Rahini and I did it in the end and had lots of fun. It was a little cold but the more we did it the more we got used to the cold.
Base 4 also did something called Tubing and Water Safety. We understood the importance of wearing a life jacket and learnt how to walk across a river safely. We also got time to relax in the river and float around in our tubs. This activity was super interesting and fun.

Last week Base 4 went to Camp Adair. One of our activities was going to be The Beast however, we were short on time so we ended up doing smaller games which were battle sticks and gaga ball. Battle sticks are where you have some sticks and you have to hold it up in front of you. When the instructor says right or left you need to let go and hold on to the other one before your one falls down. Gaga ball is a short game of trying to get other opponents out in a ring. The only rules are that you need to hit the ball with your hand and it must hit their legs to get them out. These games were really fun to play and also quite challenging but we gave it our best go.
Team challenge was a great activity which involves a lot of communication and thinking between our groups. We did challenges like balancing the seesaw, stacking different boxes on top of each other using string and trying to complete an obstacle course were we weren't allowed to talk at all. There were times where some of us got frustrated when things weren't going right, but once we overcame the challenges we were all so excited and proud of ourselves.

In week 9 we did an activity called Flipbook Animation. We watched a video on how to make a flipbook and to get an idea. Miss Raj gave us 30 pieces of paper and then we got started on our flipbook. First we had to think of an idea and draw it on a storyboard showing the beginning, middle and end of our story. After that we thought about how we were going to draw it. We had to go to a window and trace over it and make slight changes to our drawings to make it seem like the pictures were moving. After we coloured in our flipbook and stapled it and it looked amazing. Everyone came up with such cool ideas by using their imagination. Some of us also created flipbooks using a digital app.

On Thursday of Week 10 there will be special awards given to those who have kept up their splendid attendance at school. These students have had 100% attendance in Term 1. We hope that they keep this up for the rest of the year and encourage you to remind your kids the importance of being at school. We look forward to seeing many more students getting this award in the upcoming terms.
A gentle reminder that there will be no school on Friday the 7th of April 2023, Week 10. Next week will be a short week and Term 1 will end on Thursday the 6th of April 2023.
Students are not required to wear a hat in Term 2.
