Self Portraits
For the start of the year we did self portraits! For the self portraits we first did a draft copy in our UC4L books, then when we were done we got a good copy. First we drew ourselves on the good copy. Then we drew our favourite things that we love with all our heart. When we were done drawing everything we coloured it in. We also coloured in the background! When all of that was done we got to choose a coloured paper. We got our glue stick and we glued the good copy on the coloured paper. Then for the final touch we wrote our name and it was complete. Then the teachers stapled it up. That was the story of our self portraits. You should come into Base 4 and see them up on the wall!

Whānau Swimming
On Friday 10th of February, Base 3 & up went to whānau swimming. We all went to Massey Park Pools. We competed in lots of races. Each student was sent to their whānau spot and were lined up into each base. Everyone took lots of courage to participate in the swimming races even though the water was quite deep. It was a great time and few students from Base 4 were selected for North Counties swimming. After all the races we changed into our clothes. Then we went on the bus to go back to school. Of all the races, the places were declared. 4th place… Tawhirimatea! 3rd place… Papatuanuku! 2nd place, Drumroll please… Mahuika! Congratulations to Tangaroa for coming 1st place! It was a really fun day and I enjoyed every bit of it.

Upcoming Sports Tournaments
On March the 1st and the 14th of March, we are doing multiple sports tournaments .The sports that we are doing are football, cricket, ki o'rahi, and touch. The teachers asked Base 4 students which tournaments they wanted to participate in.
Because students want to do the tournaments, they have to train every second Wednesday.
In the tournament we compete against other schools and try to win. If you win,you bring home the victory.
I was looking forward to the ki o rahi because it’s fun. The fun part of it is running and having creative rules. I’m also looking forward to the tournament. We are also practising every second Wednesday to become better and have a better chances of winning. The part I’m good at is running and not getting ripped. That's what I'm good at as a defender. As an attacker, I’m good at ripping and getting the ball but I’m still working on shooting the ball at the tupu.

UC4L
In Base 4 we started UC4L on Wednesday 15th February. We talked about the Transdisciplinary curriculum areas. Each UC4L group was doing something different. In Miss Rajs group they were making dinosaurs, Mrs Brands' group were Aeroplanes and in Mrs A's group was to make a vessel.
In our UC4L, Mrs A created groups for us to make our vessel. Mrs A gave us some materials to create our vessel: legos, tape, 5-6 cardboard food boxes and 2 yoghourt lids. We first had 15 minutes to plan in our books about our vessel. After the 15 minutes had finished we could start creating the vessel for 30 mins.
Out of the 5 groups 3 of the vessels were successful and the other 2 weren’t. At the end we had to write a reflection about making the vessel. The transdisciplinary curriculum areas we used were Technology - design, prototype and create, English - speaking and listening, Maths - capacity, weight and volume.
