Holi is the festival of colours. It is celebrated mostly by people in India but is celebrated all around the world. Holi has become known as India’s most vivid, joyous festival.
Everyone in Base 4 learned how to blend pastel colours to create a magnificent art piece on a piece of paper. We learnt about primary, secondary, tertiary and complementary colours. We learnt this so we knew what colours work nicely together.
When I was walking around I saw some amazing designs and some colourful artworks. There were some intricate and some easy ones. There were flower designs, rainbow designs and there were some illusion pieces. When I was finished I asked if I could do another one. The teacher replied yes and I told some people that had finished so they could do another one. Have a look at our amazing art!

On Tuesday 14th of March Base 4 and 5 went to North Counties Touch at Bruce Pulman Park. We played 4 matches. The first school we versed was Hangia Panecila and our referee was Mrs Kidd. If you don’t know her, she was our old deputy principal and we won against them. We won our second and third games. The last school we versed was St Marys and they were a little bit harder but we also beat them. There was no prizegiving, so we walked all the way back to school. On Friday in hui, we found out that we won 1st place. We would like to thank Mr Silu’uga for teaching us all of our skills so we could get better at touch. Thank you to some parents who came to support Base 4 and Base 5.

On Wednesday the 14th of March a group of year 5, 6, 7 and 8 boys and girls from Bases 4 and 5 went to McLennan Park to take part in the NC (North Counties) Football Tournament. We walked from school through the Awekiri Wetlands to the park. Before our first game we ate some of our food then warmed up by practising penalties shots.
The year 5 and 6 boys first match was against Papakura Central Primary. Some of us thought we were going to lose badly but we played our best and with some good defending we drew 0-0. In the next game we would play would be against HPS, again we thought we would lose badly but instead we played even better than we did before, so in the end the score was 0-0. The third match would be against Cosgrove, this time we felt much more confident and even more so when Yuvraj made the score 1-0. But then someone on our team hand balled the ball in the penalty box so the other team took a penalty and made the score 1-1. We kicked off again and had the ball taken off us. Then a player from the other team broke through with the ball and scored making the final score 2-1. The last game was against Opaheke. We played well against them but they got a lucky shot and won the game 1-0. We came in fourth place but we were happy with ourselves.
The girls’ played really well! After 3 challenging games, unfortunately losing, we came back strong for our final game. We had many opportunities to score but just couldn’t get there in the end. It was all about having fun and not giving up. I am so proud of all the girls, we had so much fun!

International women's day was on Wednesday the 8th March 2023 and we wrote about any woman that inspired us and I chose my mum.
My mum
The woman that inspires me is my mum. She works at Starship and Green Lane hospital. She goes to work at 6am and comes back around 4 or 5 pm.
The reason she is important to me is because she does everything for me. She wakes me up when she leaves and always manages to reach work on time, even when she makes my lunch and gets everything ready. When she comes home she lies down for an hour or so and then comes down stairs and does something with us then she goes to the kitchen and starts to cook.
I help my mum in the kitchen most of the time and the answer to how she inspires me is because of how she cooks. Her food is so delicious, the sweets are the best. There is this very favourite dessert of mine called Gulab Jamun and she makes it perfectly. The balls are soft and brown and on the inside it is also soft but it is white. The liquid is just boiled water with sugar so it gets big. I also love the egg pudding and she makes it when I want. I love my mum!
Everything she does is enough.

On the 14th of March, we used something called a Sphero, which is a robot AI (Artificial Intelligence) you can code easily. We used an iPad and connected to the Sphero using Bluetooth. We got into groups of 2 or 3.
The first challenge we did was to make shapes by drawing with the Sphero. To draw the shapes, we used the Sphero App in the iPad and drew any shape we liked and connected it to the Sphero. Once the Sphero was connected, the Sphero ball would follow your commands.
The final challenge was to make a draft of a maze in our UC4L book. Once done we needed a ruler up to 1 metre and masking tape, using the exact measurements we made the maze out of masking tape on the carpet, then we coded the Sphero ball to go on the exact line and make it out of the maze using our measurement. Our extension challenge was to code the ball to change colour when it came to the end. That was the victory dance. So the main thing in this challenge was that you needed to code at the right speed and time to make sure the Sphero went through the maze correctly.
