North Counties Hockey
On June 7th 2023 Kauri Flats went to ACG Strathallan for North counties hockey. It was 10 - 15 minutes till we got there, but it was all good!
We exited the Taxi Van when we saw how huge the hockey ground really was. It was even bigger than the courts we have in Kauri Flats! Once we stepped in the Hockey ground we could tell we were in for a challenge.
The schools which were there were Saint Mary’s and Cosgrove. All Schools had to be split into 2 teams. We first had Morning Tea for 15 minutes, we looked at the matches and we already predicted we would have a hard time getting first place.
Mrs Brand split our players into team 1 and 2, the people who played in the first round were Arpan, Xian, Aayan, Aarav, Shaheer, Yuvraj, Khushveer, Anoopvir, Zariah, and Hillman We went against Saint Mary's first and we won easily, the score was 3-0.
After that game we had some food and just ran around in the place we were waiting, which was the best place to practise. We then went to the training ground to practise our hockey skills .
We then started to get ready for our next game with Cosgrove. We had to keep Subbing people off a few times and we lost that game 5-2.
While team 1 lost, Team 2 made it to the finals. The team they were opposing was Cosgrove team 2. We then sadly lost our game 2-1. So out of six teams we came… Second! We may have not come 1st but at least everyone had a chance!

On Wednesday the 7th of June there were Netball Counties For KFS and other schools. Since there were too many people We decided to break up into 2 different teams, Team A and Team B. And all the Netballers walked to Bruce Pulaman Park. When we got there there were loads of buses, and other schools coming out. Then right around the corner we suddenly spotted a Netball court. After we spotted the Netball court we went inside it. After going inside it we found a spot to put our bags at. And right after we had some food and went to play the first match.
After every match we would eat something because we would get very hungry. The Netballers got very tired because all the other school’s that they had versed were actually pretty good. In total the Netballers had played 6 games, and they had so much fun! At the end the senior Netballers at KFS came 2nd place, While the base 4 Netballers came 7th place which is not that bad. At the end when all the games had finished all the school’s decided now was a good time to go back to their own school’s and so everybody left. The Netballers Of KFS had to walk back after an exhausting day.
When they got back to school they realised that the bell hadn’t rang yet so the teachers decided to play a few rounds of octopus until we waited for the bell to ring. Some kids were so tired that they didn’t want to play and some wanted to eat their food in peace.
Once the bell rang everyone was all of a sudden filled with energy once again and sprinited to their parents once they saw them. Some even sprinted home just to get some rest. And the Netball people all told their parents about it, and once they got home they all had a good night's rest.

The upcoming races after base 3 students were base 4 Yr 5 girls, Yr 5 boys then Yr 6 Girls and lastly Yr 6 boys. Our base year levels went after the year 4 boys and girls came back. But first we had to do a warm up with Mr Siluuga before we had to run. Hearts beating as we get ready for Mr Williams to clap the wood for us, to run! We ran as fast as we could for the long 1.9 kilometre mixed gravel, concrete and grassy track. Every girl and boy huffing and puffing running passed the finish line. If you were in the top five of your year level race you would go to North Counties!

For UC4L this term we did baking in our group was Lexi, Rahini, Laaibah, Aparna and Ara. We baked cake pops. It was so much fun and this is how it went. First, we had to design the cake pops to see what they would look like. Next we had to make a shopping list and had to write down how much it would all cost. Then when it came to shopping day Arpana went to the shops and we got some pans to test our cake. When she got back we made our cake and tried our cake. It was bad! It tasted like something I made with no measurements when I was seven. It was so dry but the next time we tried it again I wasn't there but my group said it was yum. Then on Monday I got all of the ingredients with my mum. Then on Thursday we made the cake pops and the first thing we did was make the cake and then we had our morning tea while the cake cooked. After that my group was crumbling the cake. I was melting the chocolate chips and the chocolate chips took forever to melt so my 8f group started to make the balls out of the cake. Laaibah was the best at that. By the way when the chocolate chips were ready we all had jobs. Aparna, Laaibah and Rahini’s job was to make the balls, my job was to dip the stick into the chocolate, then into the cake pop balls. Miss Raj’s job was to cover the outside of the cake pops and Ara’s job was to put the sprinkles on. After that Laaibah and Miss Raj put them into the fridge that is in the hall and while we were waiting we all cleaned up and did the dishes. After we cleaned up, Lexi, Ara, Aparna and Laaibah got the cake pops and brought them back.

New Basketball Hoops
In term 2 some of the other students in Base 5 made a video and it told us about voting on a new basketball hoop that had some schools on it including our school. Some of the students probably came home and told you to vote for Kauri Flats School because Matua Nick told us to. In base 4 as a base we all had to vote for Kauri Flats School to get more votes and win the new hoops.
So if you didn’t know, we won the new basketball hoops!!! Matua Nick from another base is going to buy a new basketball hoop so we can play. Thank you for voting for Kauri Flats School!!!

On the 21st June 2023 Kauri Flats School had a Rippa Rugby tournament at Bruce Pulman Park. First we went to Bruce Pulman park for the tournament at 9:00 o'clock, when we got there we set up our base and put our bags away on this tent used like material that we laid on the ground. We then warmed up for our first game which was at 10:00 o'clock with Cosgrove School. When the game started we were playing pretty good but the other team was dominating until we started playing with confidence and got 6 tries, four of the tries being Torito, one by Jeter and one by me with two assists by Cooper. Unfortunately we still lost by one try, 6-7. After 3 games we made it to the final two games where we lost the 4th one because we all felt like Papakura Normal were cheating. but we won the 5th game by 7 to 2 where almost everyone in the team scored. A try and Cooper got another 2 assists in the end we were all very happy with ourselves because we won 3 of our games and only lost 2 meaning we had a higher win ratio then lose ratio.

Tackle Rugby
On Wednesday, 21st of June, the Rugby group went to Bruce Pulman park to play for our school.
At Bruce Pulman park, we were lining up ready to play for our school, our teacher Mr. Siluuga was getting us prepared and made us do a few warm ups before standing in the field. After those few warmups Mr. Siluuga was now managing the teams on who would go on the field first. I didn't manage to make it in the teams but knew that I would be playing, that also led to other people who didn't manage to make it on field first. Some time later I heard Mr. Siluuga called our names, he huddled us over since it will be our turn next to be on the field to play, was excited but overwhelmed by how big those kids were versing against. Later on, Mr. Siluuga gathered us to do a few warmups so we could prepare ourselves for the game.
After that, My name was called to take the place of a player to play for them. I rushed over to my bag and inserted my mouth guard and ran on the field to play, I was told to play in the forward row and I was scared at first since the kids were really big which would be hard for me to tackle, I tried erasing the thoughts I had in my head and just focus on myself.
During the game the other team kicked the ball and our team ran towards the ball and managed to score a point in the following time.It was the other team's ball and I managed to tackle one of the big kids once they had the ball, they also managed to score a point which made the ball pass on to us. The ball was passed to me and I ran as fast as I could while the kids were trying to tackle me but I shook it off and dodged their tackles and managed to score a point, I was happy but I knew it wouldn't be easy since they looked more confident and tough about it.
During the final game, I was running a lot which made me tired so I had to take a break. I was standing on the try line and once my team had the ball and got tackled they passed the ball to me which made us gain a point. After the game I was so tired that I chugged a lot of water and headed back to school on the way. I was very proud of myself as it was my first time playing Rugby.

Matariki
On the 21st of June, ⅔ of the base was over at Bruce Pullman Park for tackle rugby and rippa rugby so that meant that there was only ⅓ left at school. Mrs Anastasiou was our only teacher and she was telling us about Matariki. After explaining, she told us to do some Matariki artwork. She also said that she will not tell us what we are meant to do, she told us that we have to show what we think Matariki is about by making an artwork. Matariki is a star cluster. For most iwi (groups of people), Matariki is a Moāri new year. People celebrate this by...
Harvesting crops
Sharing Kai (food)
Spending time with Whānua
Acknowledging loved ones who have passed away.
Planting new crops
Flying kites
Looking at stars

School Holidays
Reminder that Friday 30th is the last day of term.
Term 3 starts Monday 17th July.
Character Dress Up Day:
Friday 30 June, as we celebrate the literacy achievements of bases, we will also be making the day a dress-up day. Students, staff, and whānau can come dressed as their favourite character/animal for the day!
No Lollies at school
Please remind your child that lollies are not allowed at school.
Birthdays
Although the generosity of parents/whānau when it is your child's birthday is great, we would much rather celebrate and appreciate the birthday in base with a celebration/happy birthday song etc. Therefore, moving forward, we would appreciate parents/whānau not bringing sweets, lollies, etc for their child's base. Again, it is a generous gesture to the students, but we also understand the expense this can cause for families.
