Welcome Back!
Kia ora Base 4 Whānau,
It has been wonderful to be back at school for this first week. Our tamariki have come back refreshed, focussed and keen to learn. Thank you for your support with this.
Our goal this term is attendance. We want to be the highest attending base in the school! Last term our attendance was 87.7%. We are aiming for this to be above 90%! Please support your child to be at school everyday and to arrive before the bell which is 8:30am.
Over the holidays we celebrated Matariki. We started our term learning about the nine stars and what each star represents. From there we created a digital mood board full of pictures related to our chosen star. Finally, we designed our own star taking inspiration from what we had learned and our mood board.
Science Roadshow
This term Base 4 had the privilege to attend the Science Roadshow. The organisation talked about topics such as sound and materials, alongside some fun experiments. They also got to look at some fascinating science conventions. Students were able to learn about different materials, non conductors/conductors, how sound travels, how sound is measured and many more things that can be found in the two slides created by some of the Base 4 students.
The term ahead:
This term in literacy, we are looking at non-fiction writing such as information reports and instructional writing. To support your child with that, you can help expose them to these sorts of texts by reading Kiwi Kids News or getting books out at the library. This can also be done through our e-platform (online library). Your child's login details are:

username: firstname.lastname

For maths, we will be covering fractions, ordering and rounding numbers, and measurement. We are also doing a big push on basic facts (times tables and division facts). There will be weekly basic facts tests. Please support your child by helping them to practice their facts at home. Prototec can be used for this.
In UC4L we are asking the big question "I wonder how I can make a difference?". We are identifying problems in our school and community, and looking at how we can solve or improve these problems to make a better world for us to live in. Once projects have been decided by our tamariki, we will be asking for some parent help with the implementation phase. We would love your help so please let us know if you are keen to help with this!
