Kia orana Base 4 Whānau!
An amazing two weeks of learning have flown by at we're at the end of week 7 already! Check out some of the fabulous mahi our tamariki have been doing!
Attendance:
Current Base 4 attendance: 87.9%
Base 4 attendance has increased drastically over the past 2 weeks, all that much closer to the golden 90%! It's amazing to see so many tamariki who are eager to learn each day. Base 4 kaiako discussed with our tamariki that if our attendance finishes the term on 90% or higher, we will have a pizza party! Please help our base increase our attendance percentage.
Congratulations to our boys and girls who represented KFS in Volleyball. Our girls came first!! An outstanding achievement by all students who went. Below are some student reflections on how they showed TREC during the day.
I showed courage by keeping on trying to serve the ball until I got it. I also showed respect by encouraging and cheering on my team members.
My favourite part of the day was when we played against all the other schools and came first. The reason I enjoyed playing against other schools was because they were really fun to play with and very competitive.

On Tuesday 22 of August some of the Base 4 students went to Bruce Pulman and played Volleyball with other schools. We versed 4 schools and we won all of our games.
I showed thinking by thinking about where I should serve the ball and I showed respect by respecting the other schools when they lost to us. Lastly, I showed courage by trying my best at digging the ball.
My favourite part of the day was when I heard our girls volleyball team came 1st we were all so happy.

My favourite part of the day at volleyball was when my team was was going against Papakura Normal and almost winning but my team and I did really good playing against them and having some intense situations.

Base 4 has been learning about electrical circuits. We found out that electrons can only flow in one direction, circuits need a power source and it needs to be a full closed circuit (like a circle!).
We used Makey Makey which allows you to create an extended keyboard from your computer. In order for it to work, it needs a full circuit and conductible materials to allow the electrons to pass through it.
Base 4 tamariki were really surprised to find out that the current can flow through people! We made a big circle of tamariki holding hands and it still worked to push the buttons. We also found out that you can use fruit, scissors, spoons and more!
Base 4 continues to be super busy with UC4L the last two weeks with making and refining their projects along the way. They have been creating many things such as an awesome dog bed for the SPCA, sculptures out of rubbish collected within the school, merch for anti bullying and racism, carving, printing and many more! During the making and refining stage of UC4L, Base 4 Tamariki has faced several challenges with confidence, shown team work and dedication towards their project. It has certainly been a great time for the tamariki and teachers in Base 4 to see all the projects being developed along the way.
Our tamariki have been making amazing progress with our school haka! Please go to our school haka tab and help your tamariki learn the reo (words).
