Mentors

****Set up an observation time before JPAS.  Use this time to complete a "pre-JPAS" and help address any issues before the JPAS observation by administration.

• If you are a new mentor with the teacher, introduce yourself and get to know each other. 

• Establish a consistent meeting time 

• Sign Mentor Contract (To be kept with school; mentor and provisional educator may want to keep a copy for records)

• You can receive up to 90 hours for relicensure you log your time. Begin a mentoring log to track hours.

• Observe provisional educator and provide constructive feedback 

• Bookmark the JSD Coaching Website:   coaching.jordandistrict.org/   Under the "mentoring tab" you will find resources that will help you mentor.

• Review any district and/or school policies such as: 

  • Attendance

  • SLOs 

  • Legislative money 

  • Substitute procedures 

  • Grading policy

  • Copy room 

• Before school begins review and collaborate plans for the first day and first week of school 

• Reflect with mentee their classroom management plan from last year. What changes they need to make for the new school year?

• Discuss upcoming SECONDARY parent/teacher conferences.  

• Provide emotional support as needed

• At the end of the month, reflect and discuss when wen well and what needs to be changed. Set appropriate goals.
