Think of possible PDs that will benefit teachers in the survival/disillusionment phase. It may be possible to invite someone from the Health and Wellness Dept. to instruct on self care.
Review spreadsheets and make corrections as necessary.
If new mentors have been assigned, make sure they have met with you to go over the contract and their duties as a mentor.
Teacher Phase: Survival/Disillusionment
Disillusionment may start to creep in during this month. During this time new teachers begin to question their commitment and competence. Many get sick during this stage and the constancy of being overworked starts to catch up with them. They feel frustrated with the need to constantly manage the class and feel overly burdened with the task of planning lessons.
Reflect on parent teacher conferences and guide follow up items
Discuss smart timesaving grading practices
Discuss ideas for keeping students engaged during the holidays
Share info on snow closures days/inside recess procedures
Discuss tips on how to avoid burnout during this time of year
Remind them of rejuvenation during Christmas break
Help them keep healthy perspective
Plan for class changes at the upcoming semester
Discuss student successes and concerns
Review and reflect on JPAS goals
Discuss concerns about students who might be struggling or needing interventions
Observe provisional educator and give constructive feedback
Provide emotional support as needed
Remain positive about the profession and continue to be an advocate for education.
