Warring States (Chu State)

It is slightly tortoise-shaped with concave arcs on both sides, rounded edges and pits on surface. There are characters Yingyuan cut in intaglio in seal script, 6 of which are complete-prints while 9 are half-prints. The seal spacing is irregular and characters are written in symmetry from the inside to outside (two lines to two lines). Its back is rough.

Gold Beast

Height 10.2 cm, Length 16 cm, Weight 9 kg, Gold content 99%

Unearthed at Nanyaozhuang, Xuyi, Jiangsu Province, 1982

This is a gold recumbent leopard, with its head on its front feet, tail pressed between its thighs and a collar on its neck. The bottom is hollow and indented and shows in intaglio two characters “黄六” (“Huang Liu”) in official script.

The seal is made of pure gold, with exquisite craftsmanship and is as fresh as new. The seal cutting is of four characters: Guang Ling Wang Xi (Seal of Prince of Guangling), in a dignified calligraphic style and skillfully cut.

It is Horseshoe-shaped with slightly concaving elliptical bottom. Two straight lines of characters in regular script cut in intaglio are engraved and the reversed inscription is deeper.
