Afternoon Pickup
Please be mindful of all of the businesses surrounding Drake. We continue to receive communication from most of the companies in our area asking our parents to be considerate of their operating hours and keeping their parking open for their patrons. Thanks for your help with this! Help us be good neighbors by waiting in pickup line that flows through the Drake parking lot.
Early Dismissal
Early Release between 2:30-4:00 continues to cause a strain on our system. Ongoing, consistent early checkouts cause a disruption to the learning environment for the student being released, the other students in class and the teacher. If it is possible, please make appointments outside of school hours. We would also request that you work out a request with your student's sports teams if their times interfere with school. We understand that there are some emergencies and some one- offs for families, but please help us emphasize the importance of school and learning for our students for the entire school day.

Transportation & Construction Girl Day
Students from Drake Middle School have the opportunity to attend the free Transportation & Constructiong Girl Day again this year! Ms. Nelson and Ms. Ewald will chaperone any Drake girl student that would like to attend this awesome event. They will meet with Superstar Women that are successful: architects, engineers, project managers, estimators, owners, superintendents, attorneys, carpenters, electricians and more. There will be over 50 interactive exhibits of the transportation and construction companies that believe women belong in this industry and deserve financially rewarding jobs.
This event is on September 26th, during the school day. A bus will be arranged to transport students to the Jeffco County Fairgrounds. Since your student will be missing school, they are responsible for talking with their teachers to get any work they miss.
If your student is interested in joining, please complete this form and have your student bring it to either Ms. Ewald or Ms. Nelson. Drake will register all students as part of Drake's group.

Social Emotional Learning
We want your child to be successful in school, and that means supporting and encouraging their whole development. While excelling in academic classes is important, students also need skills for learning challenges, making good decisions, handling strong emotions, and getting along with others.
On September 28th during Advisement class, we’ll begin Second Step® Middle School, a research-based social-emotional learning program designed to improve students’ social-emotional skills, such as emotion management, impulse control, problem solving, and empathy. Each week, a synopsis of the lesson and suggested discussion topics for families. Also, other social emotional resources, such as this link for FREE HAIRCUTS, will be provided in this section of the Drake Deets.
Second Step skills and concepts are designed to help students both in and out of school. These include:
Mindsets and Goals: Students learn how to develop a growth mindset and apply research based goal-setting strategies to their social and academic lives.
Recognizing Bullying and Harassment: Students learn how to recognize bullying and harassment, stand up safely to bullying, and respond appropriately to harassment.
Thoughts, Emotions, and Decisions: Students learn how to recognize strong emotions and unhelpful thoughts, and apply strategies to manage their emotions and reduce stress.
Managing Relationships and Social Conflict: Students learn strategies for developing and maintaining healthy relationships, perspective-taking, and dealing with conflict.
